Riverside County supervisors endorse gaming pacts

By Kimberly Trone

Riverside County supervisors Tuesday unanimously endorsed a resolution supporting tribal and state gaming agreements negotiated by Gov. Schwarzenegger and the Legislature.

Under the agreements, the Agua Caliente, Morongo and Pechanga tribes will pay higher percentages of net gaming revenues to the state in exchange for increasing the number of slot machines in casinos on existing tribal lands.

The increased payments, as much as 25 percent, would provide $9 billion to the state over the next decade, according to a report from Supervisor John Tavaglione.

The agreements include reasonable compensation from tribes to the county and cities affected by casinos for law enforcement, fire protection, emergency medical services and other services required as a result of new gaming-related projects.
