YES on Props 94, 95, 96 and 97 Launch
New Ad Featuring Schwarzenegger, O’Connell, PORAC

SACRAMENTO –The Coalition to Protect California’s Budget & Economy today announced the release of a new television ad featuring Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urging a YES vote on Propositions 94, 95, 96, and 97, the Indian Gaming Revenue Agreements on the February 5th statewide ballot.

“We just reached a historic bipartisan agreement with the California Indian gaming tribes,” the Governor says in the ad. “That will mean billions and billions of dollars over the next two decades.”

Also featured in the ad are California Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell and Lt. Leon Nixon of the Peace Officers Research Association of California, which represents over 61,000 local police and sheriffs deputies throughout the state.

The ad notes that California is facing a fiscal crisis and explains that the new revenues from the agreements will help fund public safety, local and state law enforcement, senior citizens and education.

The agreements were negotiated by the Governor and ratified by a bipartisan majority of the Legislature. Under these agreements, the Agua Caliente, Morongo, Pechanga and Sycuan tribes will pay a much higher percentage of their net gaming revenues – up to 25% – to the state. In all, these payments will provide hundreds of millions of dollars to the state each year, totaling more than $9 billion total over the next two decades.

The agreements also:

  • increase state regulatory oversight by allowing the state to conduct random audits and inspections of the tribes’ gaming;
  • share tens of millions from tribes’ gaming revenues with non-gaming tribes;
  • create stronger environmental standards for casino-related tribal projects; and
  • require the tribes to increase coordination with local governments, police and fire agencies and compensate local communities for services;
