Governor Schwarzenegger Urges Californians
to Support
Props. 94, 95, 96, 97
LOS ANGELES – Governor Schwarzenegger today urged voters to join him in supporting Propositions 94, 95, 96 & 97 at a campaign event at the Valley Industry & Commerce Association offices in Los Angeles. The Governor was joined by state and local leaders including California Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell; Russ Reinhart of PORAC – representing more than 60,000 rank and file sheriff and police officers throughout California; San Miguel Fire District Chief Augie Ghio; Winnie Litten, Ventura County Teacher of the Year for 2007; and Valley Industry and Commerce Association President/CEO Brendan Huffman.
“Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97 will give California billions more for public safety, education and other vital services without any additional taxes or new debt,” Governor Schwarzenegger said. “I urge Californians to join me in voting yes for these important measures.”
The agreements in Propositions 94, 95, 96 & 97 were negotiated by the Governor and ratified by a bipartisan majority of the Legislature. Under these agreements, the Agua Caliente, Morongo, Pechanga and Sycuan tribes will pay a much higher percentage of their net gaming revenues – up to 25% – to the state. In all, these payments will provide hundreds of millions of dollars to the state each year.
In addition, the agreements will create thousands of new jobs and add protections for the environment, local communities and casino employees.
Voting YES on Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97 will preserve the new agreements and protect the revenues they provide. Voting NO would undo the agreements and make our state's budget problems even worse.
The Governor is a member of a broad coalition of elected leaders, public safety, taxpayer, business, labor, local government, Indian Tribes and community groups in supporting a Yes vote on Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97, including local newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News.
